Nuclear-21’s Ms. Aliki van Heek just returned from a one-week mission to Kenya to support the Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) with the assessment of the draft Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment report of the Kenyan nuclear energy programme, on the request of the Kenyan National Environment Management Authority.
The main focus was on siting Kenya’s first nuclear power plant, the main pillar of Kenya’s nuclear energy programme, and topic of the report, the other two pillars being uranium exploration and the establishment of a research reactor. Aliki was part of an expert group led by NCEA having meetings with various stakeholders to the nuclear plant siting process in Kenya.
