Nuclear Systems Engineer
Mr. Ian Berkel obtained his master’s degree in Applied Physics from Delft University of Technology in 2025, specializing in nuclear engineering and fuel chemistry. During his studies, Ian completed an internship at Thorizon, gaining first-hand experience in the nuclear innovation landscape and the development of advanced reactor types.
Ian joined Nuclear-21 in October 2025 contributing to the analysis of the techno-economic context of nuclear energy systems, with particular attention to the nuclear fuel cycle and advanced reactor technologies. Ian is furthering the development of our NESSAT toolbox and especially the DANESS “Dynamic Analysis of Nuclear Energy System Strategies” code while applying it in our assignments covering both operational as more strategic questions regarding development and deployment of nuclear energy systems.
