This event provided a valuable platform for participants of the EU Industrial Alliance for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), particularly EU designers and developers, to engage with the experts, share experiences, and participate in discussions.
The exchange took place with members of the "Safeguards Community", including representatives from the European Commission, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Member States, regulatory bodies, US laboratories, and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of international safeguards.
Key Discussions and Insights
The workshop placed significant emphasis on the importance of incorporating the concept of safeguards by design into SMRs and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) at the earliest stages. Participants also highlighted the challenges associated with this approach. The in-depth discussions covered critical matters such as project timelines, technical advancements, and the increasing necessity to proactively address rapid developments in areas like artificial intelligence, information technology, and cyber security.
Collaboration with Key Organisations
The need to address these issues collaboratively with the European Commission for implementation within Europe, as well as with the IAEA and individual Member States, was strongly underlined.
Participant Engagement and Acknowledgements
The workshop fostered positive interactions among participants, who expressed their appreciation to the organisers and presenters for facilitating such a constructive exchange.
